The United Nations accepts countries with limited recognition or declared independence, except for the Vatican, as members. On July 14, 2011, South Sudan became the last member of the United Nations, bringing the number of members to 193 countries.
The membership requirements for the United Nations are as follows:
To accept UN obligations and to be able to fulfill the necessary obligations.
To be a peace-loving state.
In addition, in order to become a member of the United Nations, the General Assembly must approve the country applying for membership after the Security Council's proposal.
