Israel, which also struck UNIFIL soldiers during intense attacks on targets in Lebanon, demanded that the troops be removed from the conflict zone.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office released a video statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
“Mr. Secretary-General, remove UNIFIL forces from under attack. This must be done right now, immediately,” Netanyahu said.
Stating that they regretted that some UNIFIL soldiers were injured in the Israeli army’s attack, Netanyahu said, “We are doing everything we can to prevent this. However, the simple and obvious way to achieve this is to remove the troops from the dangerous area.”
