The latest attack comes after Netanyahu called on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to “immediately” withdraw peacekeepers from conflict zones in southern Lebanon.
The United Nations (UN) Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Sunday accused Tel Aviv of vandalizing its main gate after Israeli soldiers “forced their way” into its positions. At least 15 soldiers were reportedly slightly injured in the incident.
The accusation, made in a statement by UNIFIL, came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for the withdrawal of the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon.
The statement also said that two Israeli tanks were involved in the incident at the UN position in Ramiya early Sunday morning.
“We remind the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) and all actors of their obligation to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to always respect the inviolability of UN facilities,” it said.
